It is a hard and complex phenomenon to write an inspiring resume that can take you to win the interview. A resume is not just a piece of paper or a single document but it is something that represents you in written form. You should know how to present yourself effectively.
It’s a marketing document by which the employee can decide whether you would be a good fit for the current job or not. Also writing a resume is not a 20–30 minutes task, You have to sit down and think carefully because this document is going to impact your future
Now the question is how to write the document. In this article, you will learn some tips and techniques for effective resume writing and after reading this article you will be able to make a good and effective resume that leads you toward a good job.
- Basic information;
Start your resume with basic information about yourself. Mention your name in capital letters at the top of the page. Don’t need to mention your father’s name at the top of the resume, you can add your address, email, and contact on the top section or the left corner of your resume.
- Open up with summary;
Open up your resume with a summary, in which you have to give a brief overview of your expertise and ambitions. The starting 15–20 words of your resume in the summary section impact the employer a lot.
Use such words which prove that you are an ambitious, goal-oriented, optimistic, and motivated person. The summary section represents your thoughts and aims So, think carefully, in-depth, and then write.
- Accomplishment /Experience section;
In this section, you have to mention your career experience and career accomplishments. Try to highlight your accomplishments over your responsibilities. In today’s job market, employers are more interested in the accomplishments of the candidates rather than the responsibilities.
Mention all the accomplishments related to your job work. Write down your job history. Avoid irrelevant job experiences and list down your job experience with a recent one. If you are fresher and don’t you have great job experience then, you can add odd-one job experiences and can write your qualification section after the summary section.
Qualification;
In the qualification section start listing your latest degree. Mention the year, institute name, and your Grades. If you are not comfortable with mentioning your grades, don’t mention them. But keep in mind that you are mentioning your degree with a proper abbreviation.
say: I want to mention that I did BBA from ABC university. Then, I have to mention the full name of the degree with its abbreviation. i-e; BBA (Bachelor Of Business Administration)
- Skills:
Mention all the skills which are related to your work experience. If you have those skills which are required for the current job mention them. If you can manage multiple tasks at the same time if you can write well if you can manage well if you can lead well if you have excellent computer skills.
All these things come under your skills. Be careful while mentioning your skills. If you are applying for an HR job and you have listed all the skills related to a finance job, it will go against you. therefore there should be a positive relationship between your skills and the job nature for which you are applying.
- Publications;
This is the unique part of the resume. Not everyone has published article papers and books. If you have such achievements, mention them in the publication section of your resume. while mentioning your books and article publications, write a brief description, mention the name of the article/book, the year of publishing, and the journal in which you published your article.
- Achievements;
The achievement section is not only about mentioning the awards you have received. You can also mention your certificates and the scholarships if you have ever been nominated for them. furthermore, you can mention the leadership roles or designations if you have ever selected for it
. Mention the award/scholarship/certificate’s official title and the date/year of recognition. If you have too many awards and certificates you make subsections in the achievement section or you can just mention the number of certificates if you don’t want to expand the section.
- Internships;
If you are fresher and you don’t have job experience, you ought to mention your internships in a separate section so that you will have a chance for job selection. you simply can make an internship section in your resume and mention the organization where you have done your internships, the time duration, and the year.
A person who has great job experiences in different roles/companies or sectors then, he doesn’t need to mention his internship experiences.
- Languages;
Language skill is a separate section in a resume that seems not that important but, it affects greatly. Mention your language skills in the below section or on the left side of your resume. Do not represent your language skills by using symbolic language because it will not give a clear idea to the recruiter or your skills.
There might be some jobs in which your task is to communicate with customers, suppliers, or business officials. Sometimes in multinational companies, your language skills go in your favor and you can be selected for an abroad task. therefore it is important to use such words which actually show your command of that language i-e; fluent, etc.
- Volunteer work;
Multinational firms highly prefer those candidates who have social work experience. If you have enough experience and material for your resume you can mention it in the above sections but, if you are a fresher or you are applying for a job in which the nature of work is related to volunteer experience, you can add it as a separate section.
- Hobbies;
This section is optional. Sometimes it goes in your favor and sometimes it goes against you. If the employer has some kind of personal or emotional attachment to any hobby that you have mentioned (i.e.; painting, gardening, reading, etc.) it can be favorable for you.
If the employee has personal dialkenes for a certain hobby(i.e.; Stamp collection, playing cards, etc. ) it can go against you. If you are adding this section keep it simple and precise. Do not list fake hobbies.
- References;
This is the last section of your resume. This section will be favorable for You if you include it in your resume. Mentioning references increase the authenticity of your resume. Write down references of well-known professionals.
A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 references should be added. To add references you must have to mention their name, current job/position,, email, and contact number.
